American Singer International announces the first class to be held outside of the United States.
The American Singer Seminar was first offered in 1999 in Breckenridge, Colorado. It was created to serve as a workshop to test teaching methods for performing artists, specifically, singers of opera and musical theater.
American Singer's goal has been to provide a venue where established Broadway performing artist-teachers could share their experience with younger performers who sought to pursue careers in musical theater and opera. Also welcome are teachers of singing who wish to enjoy a holiday spent devoted to their own performance and acquiring new skills from master teachers from Broadway.
We are now excited to expand this program to Europe and Sweden as American Singer International.
Each class is cast with specific criteria: Each participant must have mastery over their craft enough to be able to participate in the exercises and performances. The goal for the class is for each participant to walk away with a clear understanding of their talents, skills and abilities in comparison with the current job market and expectations.
The seminar will be set in the beautiful place of Orsa, Sweden between July 3-july 17. We will make pop-up performances during the Orsayran as well as a concert performance made by the faculty in front of their students and audience at Vattnäs konsertlada, www.vattnasladan.com den 15 July kl 15.00.
Founded by American Baritone, Douglas Webster. Mr. Webster has performed on stages across forty-six states of US and throughout Europe as soloist with symphony orchestras, operas and in solo recital. As an actor he has appeared on Broadway, National tour and in regional theatre. Winner of the Joy In Singing and Concert Artists Guild International Awards, he is a Distinguished Alumnus of Indiana University. His career began with the performance of Leonard Bernstein's MASS for the composer's 70th birthday at The Tanglewood Festival. He has since led productions of Bernstein's MASS at The Vatican, the Kennedy Center and the premier performances in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Spain and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
He is a popular guest master clinician for private and college music programs across the country and former director of opera for the university of Oregon. His former students can be found working in opera and musical theater on Broadway, National tour and regional theaters as well as on the faculties of music and theater programs across the United States. He and his wife, cellist Elizabeth Byrd, share their homes in Portland and South Park, Colorado (yes, THAT South Park) with dogs of undetermined origin named, Kabella and Humphrey.
We welcome you to review the pages on our web page, www.americansingerinternational.com as well as Facebook to find further information about times and places where we will be. Demonstration classes will be offered for the public to observe master teachers working with students in musical theatre and opera repertoire.
We are not exclusively seeking to invite the best performers to join us. We are seeking to inspire those who do join us to become the best.
